Mr. Barbacki is a former Crown Prosecutor who holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Law degrees from McGill University. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1976 and began his career as a Crown Prosecutor in Montreal. After seven years experience prosecuting all types of criminal cases Mr. Barbacki moved on to a position in Ottawa as the Coordinator of the Criminal Law Review for the Solicitor General of Canada, where he stayed until 1986. He then returned to Montreal to lecture at the Faculty of Law at McGill University, teaching Criminal Procedure.
Mr. Barbacki has been in private practice since 1986 as a criminal defence lawyer and has extensive trialexperience. The hundreds of criminal trials he has beeninvolved in include over 40 trials by judge and jury,many of which were murder cases. Mr. Barbacki alsohas extensive experience prosecuting and defending white collar criminal cases such as theft and fraud, as well as a large number of successful defences of drug trafficking and possession charges and impaired drivingcases, where his science background is valuable indealing with the technical aspects of breathalyzer issues.He also has extensive experience in family violenceand sexual offences.
